Movember: Skincare for Men (Part 1/2)

It’s the time of the year again, a whole month dedicated to men’s health. Movember, formerly also as November, is when courageous and selfless men around the world grow a moustache to create awareness for men’s health.

Here in LavaHealth we will be specifically focusing on skincare for men.

Why Do Men Need Skincare?

When asked about their skincare routines, most men behaved that it is easier to scale Mount Everest than to engage in the pursuit of radiant, healthy looking skin. A majority of men do not realize the importance of skincare due to the traditional media’s portrayal that skincare is very feminine. Hence, when faced with blackheads, excessive sebum and acne, they would rather bear the consequences than to invest in skincare.

Personal grooming may be an unchartered water for many males. Getting yourself groomed is not a sign of pride or narcissism but self-respect and politeness to others. In this guide, we will discuss how you should begin on building your skincare journey to help you attain healthy, clear skin.

There are 2 components to achieve that. But in this article, we will first touch on skincare products.

Understanding Your Skin Type

In the skincare and beauty market, we are commonly faced with these words “Oily, Combination, Dry and Sensitive”. Do you know what these words mean?

These are the 4 common skin categories, we frequently use to describe our skin type. However, there is actually no fixed skin type as it changes according to the environment, climate, lifestyle, hormones and ageing etc.

A simple scenario would be if you are in a humid country. Staying outdoor, you may feel that your skin is oily due to the high humidity. But if you were to enter an indoor place that is air-conditioned, your skin may feel dry and tight.

Hence “dry, sensitive, oily or combination” is just a rudimental way to categorise our skin and a convenient way for us to choose products that are suitable for our skin. Keeping these at the back of our mind, there is actually another way to define our skin type.

Fitzpatrick Scale

The Fitzpatrick Scale groups the skin according to how it reacts to the sun and UV rays and help to assess the risk of skin cancer as well.

There are generally 6 different types ranging from extremely fair skin to deeper brown skin tone.

The underlying skin issues have also been listed out here. Even if you do not have these skin issues now, without proper protection against the UV rays, you may encounter these in future.

Key Issues Faced

One key issue many faced is Hyperpigmentation regardless of whether you are Type 1 or 6. Hyperpigmentation is used to describe an area of your skin that is darker than your actual skin pigmentation. Another way to coin this is called dark spots or sun spots. Hyperpigmentation can occur when one is exposed to the sun without proper sun protection which causes melanin rises to the surface of the skin.

Then what is Hypopigmentation? It refers to a portion of your skin being lighter than the overall skin tone. This occurs when the body doesn’t produce enough melanin.

Lastly, when the skin has a cut or a wound, the skin cells and tissues will repair them. However, due to an overactive granulation tissue, extra skin tissue is being formed on the wound creating a rubbery like bump called keloid.

So after sharing the above information, do you think that skincare is important for men as well?

Why Celavive Skincare?

Celavive is formulated with USANA 2 unique formulations.

  1. USANA InCelligence Technology®

It is made up of a unique mix of two bioactive peptides and two botanical extracts. These potent ingredients were chosen for their ability to work in highly targeted ways to rejuvenate a youthful appearance.

The Celavive Cell Signaling Complex replenishes structural proteins and natural moisturizers to smooth the look of fine lines and wrinkles that can make you look older. A visible lifting effect also helps promote youthful-looking firmness, reducing the appearance of crow’s feet and forehead lines. It also provides antioxidant activity to help protect against free radicals and promote skin’s brightness.

Daily use of Celavive products with the Cell Signaling Complex is a good way to help preserve your skin’s radiance.

2. Celavive® Olivol™ Botanical Blend

Moisture is an essential component of radiant, healthy-looking skin. Celavive Olivol® Botanical Blend gives your skin lasting moisture for a complexion that appears smooth and soothed. This exclusive combination of botanicals includes USANA’s unique Olivol olive-fruit extract, plus watermelon rind (Citrullus lanatus), lentil (Lens esculenta), and apple (Pyrus malus) fruit extracts. These ingredients have been clinically shown to rehydrate for up to 24 hours after one application.

USANA developed an olive-oil-extraction process that isolates the moisturizing components of olive oil. This creates a potent antioxidant compound called Olivol® olive-fruit extract. For centuries, olive oil and its extracts (like Olivol) have been used as moisturizers. As part of the botanical blend, Olivol gently hydrates your skin. It also helps support your body’s natural skin-repair process to give your skin the appearance of a youthful glow.

Because the Celavive Olivol Botanical Blend supports your skin’s natural moisture factor, it delivers the right amount of moisture your skin needs. This makes it a great skin replenisher for dry, oily, combination, and sensitive skin.

Here at LavaHealth, we have 3 specially curated Celavive packs based on your skin needs.
